Figure of speech


1. Metaphor – Used to make direct comparisons without using “like” or “as.”
Example: “My family is a tree that stands tall” compares the family to a strong tree, symbolizing unity and support.

2. Simile – Compares two things using “like” or “as.
Example: “Her words are soft like the rain at night” and “My siblings laugh like bells that ring.” These create gentle and joyful imagery.

3. Personification – Gives human qualities to nonhuman things.
Example: “A wave that breaks on the shore of life” gives the wave human-like action, symbolizing a father’s protective presence.

4. Hyperbole – An exaggerated statement to express strong feelings.
Example: “That fills my heart and washes away all sorrow” and “There is no time when love can be replaced.” These emphasize the deep, unconditional love within the family.

5. Imagery – Uses descriptive language that appeals to the senses.
Example: “A shelter of shade, a source of light” and “The warmth I feel in their embraces.” These lines paint vivid pictures of comfort, love, and safety.
